Email Subscription Terms

1. Who we are

The Sahara Centre (TSC) is athink tank dedicated to repositioning indigenous African knowledge systems as rigorous frameworks for contemporary governance and development. We use the term “indigenous intelligence” to describe this body of knowledge, and our work spans research, programming, and convening across Nigeria and the broader continent.

2. What You Are Subscribing To

By submitting your email address through our website, you are consenting to receive electronic communications from The Sahara Centre, which may include:

• Updates on our research publications, white papers, and thought leadership
• Announcements about programmes and events, including our Lantern critical thinking programme, Mangrove Sessions, and public convenings
• Information about our INDIGO membership community
• Institutional news, opportunities, and partnerships
• Occasional communications from Red Clay, our affiliated tourism practice. 

We will not use your email address for any purpose beyond what is described above without obtaining your consent.

 

3. Your Consent

By entering your email address and submitting the subscription form on our website, you confirm that:

• You are voluntarily providing your email address for the purposes described in these Terms
• You have read and understood these Subscription Terms

Your subscription is entirely voluntary. You may unsubscribe at any time without consequence.

 

4. How to Unsubscribe

You may withdraw your consent and unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time by:

• Clicking the “Unsubscribe” link included at the bottom of every email we send you
• Sending an email to culture@saharacentre.org with the subject line “Unsubscribe”

Once we receive and process your request, we will remove your email address from our active mailing lists. Please allow up to 10 business days for this to take effect. Note that unsubscribing from our mailing list does not delete your data from our records; please refer to our Privacy Policy below for information on data deletion requests.

 

5. Frequency of Communications

We aim to communicate thoughtfully and sparingly. You will not receive daily messages from us. The volume of communications will depend on the volume of our programming and publications, but we endeavour to send no more than two to four communications per month except in the case of time-sensitive event announcements.

 

6. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Subscription Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Where changes are material, we will notify subscribers by email before the changes take effect. Your continued subscription following notification of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

Privacy

1. Introduction

The Sahara Centre (“TSC”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your data when you interact with our website and subscribe to our communications.

This Policy applies to information collected through our website at www.saharacentre.org and any related digital communications we send to you.

When you subscribe to our mailing list or interact with our website, we may collect the following categories of personal data:

4. How We Store Your Data

Your data is stored on Google Workspace and our mail subscriber servers, which operate in accordance with industry-standard data security practices. We retain subscriber data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we will retain a suppression record of your email address to ensure we do not contact you again unless you re-subscribe, but your data will not be used for any active communications purpose.

If you would like us to fully delete your personal data from our records, you may make a data deletion request (see Section 7).

 

5. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. We may share your data in limited circumstances only:

• With our email service provider(s) for the sole purpose of delivering our communications
• With trusted service providers who support our operations (such as website hosting or analytics providers), who are contractually obligated to protect your data
• Where we are required to do so by applicable Nigerian law, court order, or government authority

If we share data with any third-party service provider, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it in a manner consistent with this Policy.

 

6. Cookies and Analytics
